A little bit about Mat

Mat Heighway (headshot)

Mat Heighway was a music scholar at Dean Close School in Cheltenham, England. He continued his musical studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, England, where he studied double bass and singing. It was during this time that he first started to typeset music.

After graduating, Mat worked as a freelance musician, both in London and in his native County of Gloucestershire, being active as a double bassist, tenor, and bass guitarist (more info), as well as running Meticulous Printed Music Production. After a serious illness, in 2002 he became double bassist in the band with the UK National Tour of the West End hit musical The King & I, spending 14 months on the road.

Since then, Mat has continued to work as a freelance musician - mostly on UK tours of musical shows, although at times he has had a variety of additional jobs, from office work for the Ministry of Defence to delivering demonstration cars.

Mat performs all over the country, particularly with West End show tours and the Royal Shakespeare Company, and since January 2004 he has played in the Oxfordshire-based blues band Mojo Bones. Mat is married to Emily Eastmond, lives in Bicester, Oxfordshire, and is currently building a motorhome for use while touring.
